City St George's Volunteering is organising a Messages of Welcome workshop, as part of a wider project organised by Conversation Over Borders, a UK charity that provides 1-2-1 English and befriending classes to refugees and asylum seekers.
What is Messages of Welcome?
People who come to the UK are often without their loved ones starting fresh in an unfamiliar place. Spreading messages of welcome helps foster a sense of community and shows people that they are valued, loved and welcome. It provides an opportunity to reaffirm our shared humanity. By taking part, you can offer hope, encouragement, and connection to those navigating the challenges of resettlement.
What will the workshop entail?
You'll write a message to someone who has just arrived in the UK. It can be as short or as long as you want. Feel free to add a drawing or some decorations to make it special! You can think about the following questions:
1.What would you want someone to say to you?
2. What would make you feel safe and welcome?
3. What are some fun or interesting things about the UK that you would want to share?
